Deepika Padukone-Returns
Deepika Padukone returns to the box office with the much-awaited release of the film that did not meet the expected returns.
Prior to the release of the movie, the Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone visited JNU and that turned out to be controversial. The visit was followed by a call on Twitter to boycott Deepika's latest movie, Chappaak while blaming her for visiting the place where everyone was attacked and injured, as a manipulative technique to promote her film. She did not say a word when she visited and chose to show her solidarity through silence. And she got a lot of backlashes for the act. However, she was the first actress to appear at the CAA protest in JNU. There were many people out there who came to social media to defend her and empower her and meme-makers were on board as well.
Opposition parties came out in support of the film. There were reports that the actor was on campus for the promotion of Chhapaak. The Congress-ruled states have announced their support for the actor, but the reports of the first day's collection are not good news for Deepika. It must be the backlash that led to this situation. Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior made a big leap on the first day when the movie arrived in the theatres with Chhapaak.
A total of Rs. 4.75 crores were collected on the first day for Chhapaak. At the same time, Tanhaji's collection was Rs.10 crore. It was the morning collection of Chappaak. Trade exports were therefore expected to increase in the evening. But the film was not able to achieve the expected leap and was expected to fetch only Rs.5-7 crores on the first day.
Rs. 10- 14 crores were collected for Tanhaji. Deepika's film did not get the expected look. However, Ajay Devgn has exceeded expectations. The film revolves around the battle of Tanaji Malusare in 1670 to capture Kondana Fort. Chhapaak was directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film tells the story of Lakshmi Agarwal, who survived the acid attack and became a powerful independent person who is able to look past the shortcomings and live her best life.
Deepika herself produced the film. Tanhaji is directed by Om Raut. Saif Ali Khan and Kajol will be playing the lead roles along with Ajay Devgn. It is interesting to note that those who called for the boycott of Chhapaak were invited to see Tanhaji.
