Citizenship Amendment Act in India

Everything that is going wrong with India right now!

India is a battlefield now. It is the majority of people that make up India who are fighting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill passed by the Parliament of India on 11 December 2019 v/s the Parliament of India (Basically BJP!).

Citizenship amendment bill enables the people of Hindu, Sikh, Buddist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities that had fled persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan before December 2014 to acquire citizenship in the country. Yes, Muslims are not included and they justify it by saying those are countries are Muslim nations and they do not need saving. Well, where is secularism, one of the features of the Indian Constitution? This is the first time any act has been passed based on religion. This is the beginning of restructuring the identity of India. Obviously, the Muslim community gets affected and they began to protest. Violence was unleashed upon them. A lot of bloodsheds. There is no room for dissent. Basic Human rights denied. Paramilitary forces unleashed to maintain the ‘peace’. Things got ugly and from there, things keep diving in, in an outrageous manner.

Assamese protested strongly against this act because their indigenous community was threatened to be displaced once, thanks to the Bangladeshi immigrants. After a long struggle and formation of certain parties, they won and protected their community. Now to throw this at them again questions their security in this country. They dissented. What do they get in return? Internet shutdowns and injuries and pure violence. They still don’t have the internet in the area and no one really knows what is going on in there just like the Jammu & Kashmir Crisis.

The democracy of the country gets eliminated which was the main element of the constitution.

What’s happening in the country is so sad. ABVP goons attacked JNU university in Delhi with deadly weapons. That was terrorism. No Journalists were allowed in. They reported that street lights were switched off for 1km and ambulances denied entry. ABVP Delhi State Jt Secretary admits on LIVE tv that they were armed and caused violence in JNU. Muslims are being targeted in UP. Reports of Muslim schoolboys suffering from retinal bleeding while keeping them in the custody of the police officers surfaced recently. Sexual assault is the only possible explanation for this injury. The economy is deteriorating more than ever.

BJP released a campaign in favor of the Citizenship Amendment Act and they turned to these ploys to gather support by using the same toll-free number that connects you to a sex chat or a ‘free’ Netflix subscription as the factor that influences the support. They turn to these crooked ways and lies to manipulate people and it is sickening.             

We still believe that the strength lies in the people because India is a democracy which by definition means a country for the people, by the people and of the people. They are fighting and going strong more than ever. This protesting in a perpetual manner will get us somewhere. We will bring India back to the normal state soon and work towards the progress.
